What is Dental Phobia?

Every day we speak to nervous patients who are terrified to tears by the mere thought of booking a dental appointment. We understand your fears and respect your worries you have at seeking treatment. If it matters to you then it matters to us.

We are an extremely experienced friendly team who pride themselves in being able to build your confidence and trust in us. We will happily talk to you on the phone to reassure you and help you get through our front door.

To begin with, we can meet you outside of the surgery taking the time to sit and talk to you face to face, giving you the chance to explain what makes you anxious, what your fears are and what you wish to achieve.
Each new patient consultation is a longer appointment than our routine examinations so that we can spend the time getting to know you so you have complete confidence that you are in the very best hands.

Some patients like to know every detail whilst others like to just put on some headphones and listen to music. Either way there will be a hand to hold if you need it and we will go at your pace ensuring you feel in control at all times.

Helpful Techniques

There are a number of ways to alleviate your dental anxieties, some of which you can put into practice before you even arrive.

Book a morning appointment, so you’re not worried about it all day
Remember that your first appointment is only a consultation: you can talk everything through with us ahead of treatment
Bring a friend with you to your appointment to help give you support
Talk to family and friends about their positive experiences at the dentist
Start slowly: ask us for a simple clean and polish to help you get used to dental procedures

We ensure all our patients have all of the information they need to make an informed choice about treatments and we will talk through all of your options during an in-depth consultation.

  Today I had my 2nd visit to Sunshine, what a team, to say I hate dentists is an understatement.
They really do put you at ease, no rush take as much time as u need.
Another appoinment made for later in December.
I cannot recommend this practice high enough.

  Today I had the best visit at the dentist, Mr. Ash was my dentist today, he took care of me and explained me very well my problems, I recommend him with all my heart.   My experience with Sunshine Dental has been wonderful. They’re always really cooperative, and are really patient with me.

My dental hygiene has always been something I’ve struggled with, but I have never felt judged at all by any of the team as I have at other practices before. On top of having an ongoing dentist phobia (which has improved thanks to Sunshine), I’m also autistic and very sensitive to sound and light in particular. The team at Sunshine Dental have always been really patient with me when I’ve visited, letting me have breaks so I don’t get overstimulated. Last time I went, I was expecting to have a load of cavities (shockingly, I didn’t - guess I just have strong teeth and have been lucky) but Vishal was really caring and explained everything so that nothing was a surprise to me.

Although I haven’t been for an appointment for a while due to being away at university, I’m always happy with the service when I do go. And although I still have a way to go with my phobia and anxiety, I’m definitely a lot better considering it took a while to even get me through the door when I first came! These days I find that it’s a lot less scary than I think, and my dental hygiene is slowly improving.

  Highly recommend Sunshine to anyone. They are absolutely brilliant and put you at ease as soon as you walk through the door.
